Edward Roberts Death, Obituary News:

Edward Roberts, former Newfoundland and Labrador Lieutenant Governor, passed away this morning. He was the first executive assistant to the last living Father of Confederation, Joey Smallwood.

I was his executive assistant when he was minister of Justice and Attorney General in the early 1990s, and it was the greatest education. He demanded a lot, but he gave so much. He loved this place, utterly. He loved politics, both for the theatre and for the important work to be had. I still frequented his house, for his counsel and a fine cup of tea.

During the last federal campaign, I brought along two special guests. It was a moment he thoroughly enjoyed. Over the years, we never strayed far from one another, and I’m deeply grateful for that. (Here we both are at the funeral of his frequent sparring partner, John Crosbie.) Edward Roberts was devoted to his family and to this Province. He was its student and its servant. He was a great man. Rest In Peace, sir…..”  Seamus O’Regan posted on Facebook.
