Walker Bethune passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 28, 2021 after being struck by a lightning while on vacation in Florida. Bethune was 17-year old from Georgia who passed away listening to one of his favorite songs by the Allman Brothers Band, “Soulshine.”
Bethune went on vacation to Marco Island with his family when lightning hit him. His father David performed CPR before medics arrived and airlifted him to a hospital in Miami.
He had been stable but still in critical condition last week. Recently, Bethune’s family shared that he developed brain swelling but died later.
Bethune was a rising senior and cross country runner at Stratford Academy in Macon.
The Allman Brothers Band family are utterly saddened over Walker’s passing. Our thoughts and condolences to the Bethune family during this tough time.

Funeral arrangements will be made public by the Bethune family as they deem fit. Their mourning period should be respected at this time.
